Nörvenich, 19.02.2024 - The investment developer COMPLEMUS Real Estate is developing a logistics center including an office building with a total of 72,000 square meters for the Fressnapf Group in Nörvenich (Düren district, North Rhine-Westphalia). Fressnapf is the European market leader for pet supplies and intends to use the new logistics site in Nörvenich as a central shipping hub for its European e-commerce business. In addition to storage and transportation, other goods-related services will be provided at the site. A total of up to 800 jobs are possible. The new Fressnapf site has a comprehensive sustainability concept: a rooftop solar power system with six megawatts of power (peak) feeds heat pumps in the buildings, making them energy self-sufficient, as well as a green roof and rainwater infiltration.
Matthias Dötsch, Managing Partner of COMPLEMUS Real Estate GmbH, comments: “We are very proud to have been able to develop this tailor-made logistics property for Fressnapf. Thanks to the determined support of the municipality of Nörvenich and the district of Düren, the planning and approval phase was exceptionally short.”
Nörvenich's mayor Dr. Timo Czech (CDU) is delighted: “Due to the phase-out of lignite mining, which has been brought forward to 2030, the Rhenish mining district is facing the enormous challenge of shaping a successful structural change in a short space of time. With the establishment of Fressnapf and a large number of new jobs and apprenticeships that will be created locally as a result, the municipality of Nörvenich is making its first major contribution to the success of this mammoth task.”
Christian Buschmann, Vice President of Logistics Engineering & Real Estate at Fressnapf, comments: “The decision in favor of Nörvenich is also a clear commitment to the region, as its geographical location makes it the perfect European logistics hub. When planning the location, we attach particular importance to ensuring that it is as sustainable as possible, but also has a high level of performance to further accelerate our e-commerce growth. Despite the use of state-of-the-art logistics systems, the human factor will make the decisive difference - which is why we are already looking forward to the many new colleagues who will enrich our team. With a diverse range of tasks, we not only offer exciting jobs, even for career changers but also make our contribution to the economic development of the region.”
Nörvenich is located in the Rhenish lignite mining area and is particularly affected by the structural change that is now required due to the political decision to phase out coal-fired power generation by 2030 at the latest. The new jobs created by Fressnapf are therefore urgently needed. The energy self-sufficient concept of the site ties in sustainably with the tradition of the Rhenish mining area, which is characterized by lignite and thus by energy production. With a nominal output of six megawatts peak, the solar power system planned for the building will be one of the largest rooftop PV systems in North Rhine-Westphalia once it is commissioned.
GOLDBECK West GmbH - Cologne-Bonn branch was commissioned with the construction of the building. The land developer and seller was RWE Power AG. BNP Paribas Real Estate GmbH acted as an agent for the user Fressnapf.
